Meet Edward Mordake, The English Man With Two Faces. 😮😱😱
Edward Mordake was reportedly the 19th century heir to an English peerage. He supposedly had an extra face on the back of his head, which could neither eat nor speak, although it could laugh and cry. #NaijaVirals pic.twitter.com/7DKVkhhJ6n— Naija Virals (@NaijaVirals) May 4, 2018
Edward Mordake lived in the 19th century and had, supposedly, an extra face attached to the back of his head. This head didn’t speak or eat, but it could laugh and cry. Edward Mordake was desperate to have this second head removed, as at night it would whisper satanic language to him. No doctor would however attempt it.
Edward committed suicide when he was 23, as he could not stand his head anymore. It is difficult to establish the facts behind Edward Mordake’s condition due to the lack of reliable medical records. Not even his date of birth and death are recorded and there are conflicting accounts regarding his suicide, as well as placement and position of his extra face. Much of what is known is based on oral retelling.
The band Tom Waits wrote a song about Edward Mordake called Poor Edward.
Edward wasn’t the only person with this problem. In history there are 2 famous cases, the ones of Chang Tzu Ping and Pasqual Pinon.
Chang Tzu Ping Chang Tzu Ping was a man born with two faces. His second face, was on the right side of his head and only consisted of a mouth and teeth. When he was in his 40s, an American soldier found him, and took him to a hospital where surgery was conducted. The surgery was very well documented including the surgery on an 80s television show called That’s Incredible.
After the surgery, he returned to his native hometown in China and lived the remainder of his life there.
This famous video clip shows Chang Tzu Ping move his 2 mouths at the same time:
Pasqual Pinon Pasqual Pinon The Two-Headed Mexican
Pasqual Pinon (1889–1929), known as The Two-Headed Mexican, was a performer with the Sells-Floto Circus in the early 1900s. A railroad worker from Texas, Pinon was discovered by a sideshow promoter, whose attention had been caught by a large benign cyst or tumor at the top of Pinon’s head.
The promoter drafted Pinon into his freak show and had a fake face made of wax to place onto the growth, allowing the claim that Pinon had two heads (some reports state that it was made of silver and surgically placed under the skin). After several years of touring, the circus manager paid to have the growth removed, and Pinon returned to Texas.
