Abuja Grassroots Youths Set to Shutdown FCTA over Prolonged Stay at Home

Abuja grassroots youths have vowed to shutdown the Federal Capital Territory Administration over none resumption of primary school pupils in the federal capital territory over what they described as the "insensitivity of the Council Chairmen and the FCT administration over non-compliance with the President's directives to implement the National Minimum wage."

In a statement jointly signed by the duo of Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf and Buhun Barkonun, the youths stated that they are worried about the future of young pupils who have remained at home for over three weeks after the post-COVID-19 school resumption in the FCT.

"We wish to register our utmost dismay that our children and future generations who are in public Primary schools have been home over 3 (three) weeks now.

"It is with a heavy heart, that we state, that we are no longer comfortable with the insensitivity of the Council Chairmen and the FCT administration over non-compliance with the President's directives to implement the National Minimum wage.

"It has also come to our grave notice that the FCTA has fulfilled the payment of the National Minimum Wage towards her members of staff at the FCTA Secretariat, but had ceaselessly neglected the LEA and Area Councils staff thereby jeopardizing the future of our young children who have been at home for almost a month today.

"It is in the light of this unwholesome and unfortunate acts of deprivation by the FCTA, that we wish to give both the FCTA and the Council Chairmen 48 hours to resolve these issues with the National Union of Teachers (NUT, FCT Chapter), so that our children can go back to classroom or we shut down the FCT by next Monday 9th of November 2020.

"There is no gainsaying our abilities to synergise with other youth Organizations within the FCT to make sure we put an end to this denial of the rights of the NUT members in the FCT.

"We will not hesitate to call out those responsible for this act of sabotage to the lives of our young children", the youths stated.
