The candidate for senatorial election in Kano South, under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Suleman Kawu Sumaila has alleged that his opponent, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya of All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning to rig the election.
In a viral video clip obtained by PlatinumPost on Monday, Sumaila spoke in an interview with newsmen, believed to be recorded at a political event.
In the 2:06 minute clip, Sumaila alleged that information at their disposal alleged that the APC is plotting to rig the election through inflation of figures, snatching of boxes or tempering with Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
According to Sumaila, NNPP had not been frightened with the speculations as it had expected such and is well prepared for the election.
He revealed that the party had taken three majors- against election malpractices, including prayers, protection of votes and writing to INEC, security agencies and other stakeholders about the speculations.
“Of course, it is true we heard speculations of a plot to rig elections, especially in Kano South Senatorial District. The APC is plotting to inflate figures, snatch ballot boxes or tamper with BIVAS.
“So, this is not a threat to us because we had expected it and prepared for it. We have already taken three majors- one is that we are calling on, and enlightening our supporters to ensure they protect their votes. They should resist any attempt to rig the election and they too, should not engage in election malpractices.
“Secondly, we will petition the Independent National Electoral Commission, Civil Society Organizations, security agencies and all other election stakeholders to warn and take action against those people trying to rig election,” Sumaila said.
The third one, according to Sumaila, who is the former adviser to president Muhammadu Buhari on House of Representatives matters, is that “we had already gone far in seeking devine intervention against anybody planning to cheat on us in the upcoming election. We pray to Allah to crash him and his plans.
“We therefore call on our supporters to rise up in seeking Allah ‘s intervention through reading the Holy Quran completely, giving alms and praying profusely to break anybody -politician, security agent or INEC official planning to rig the election.
We call on our supporters not to even attempt to rig election through inflating figures or engage in election malpractices.
“We believe in Allah and believe that He is the one who gives success,” Sumaila, a former member, House of Representatives of Sumaila constituency said.
