Court dismisses Bobrisky’s case

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely known as Bobrisky, which alleged violations of his fundamental rights by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly.

In the suit, Bobrisky sought N200 million from the EFCC, citing “psychotic trauma,” and N1 billion from the National Assembly for allegedly violating his right to a fair hearing. He also requested an injunction to prevent both entities from detaining, harassing, or issuing a warrant against him.

The case follows allegations linked to a leaked audio recording by social media influencer Martins Otse, who claimed Bobrisky paid the EFCC N15 million to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky denied the allegations, describing the recording as false and threatening to take legal action against Otse. Despite this, he failed to respond to an EFCC summons.

On November 1, EFCC operatives reportedly removed Bobrisky from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

Delivering judgment on November 28, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled that Bobrisky’s claims lacked credible evidence.

“Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him,” said EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale in a statement on Friday.

Justice Owoeye concluded that the allegations against the EFCC and the National Assembly were unsubstantiated.

“I hold that the claims of violation of fundamental rights against the 1st and 2nd Respondents were not made out of the affidavit evidence placed before this Court,” the ruling stated.

The court dismissed Bobrisky’s suit and declined to award damages against the EFCC.
