Police arrest man for allegedly setting wife on fire
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Olubunmi Johnson, for allegedly setting his wife, Kikelomo, on fire in their apartment on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, in the Ota area.
The disturbing incident, reported by an eyewitness, occurred on Friday around 8:30 p.m. following a domestic dispute.
While the exact details leading up to the tragic altercation remain unclear, Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed Johnson’s detention in connection with the alleged crime.
According to a neighbor who witnessed the incident, the victim’s relatives were alerted and promptly contacted the police.
Police officers from the Ilogbo Division responded swiftly, arresting Johnson and initiating an investigation into the case, which is being treated as attempted murder.
“The husband doused his wife’s body with petrol and set her on fire with a match. Witnesses to the incident immediately rushed her to the hospital.
“Upon receiving the report, our detectives quickly took action and arrested the husband, who has since been detained.”
