Man City’s hearing over alleged Premier League rule breaches concludes
Manchester City’s hearing over 115 alleged breaches of Premier League rules has concluded, but a verdict is not expected until 2025, according to reports from Monday.
The hearing, which began on September 16 at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London, saw closing arguments presented to an independent panel on Friday.
The charges against the club include 80 breaches of financial rules from 2009 to 2018 and 35 counts of non-cooperation with the Premier League’s investigation.
These accusations relate to failing to provide accurate financial information, such as details on revenues from sponsors and the salaries of players and managers, as well as violations of financial sustainability regulations set by both UEFA and the Premier League.
If found guilty, Manchester City could face severe penalties, including a possible relegation from the Premier League.
The case has drawn widespread attention, particularly because of the club’s dominance in English football since Sheikh Mansour’s 2008 takeover, during which they won eight of the last 13 Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League.
The club, however, has strongly denied any wrongdoing and has pledged to clear its name, with the expectation that they would appeal any potential ruling, which would likely delay any sanctions further.
While off-the-field controversies continue to shadow Manchester City’s success, their on-field performance has also been under scrutiny, as they are currently experiencing a lean spell with just one win from their last nine games in all competitions.
