Brave policeman killed fighting herdsmen in Southern Kaduna, several soldiers injured
.
At least one security operative has been confirmed dead in the gun battle between Fulani herdsmen and combined forces of the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police.
.
Southern Kaduna has remained a source of concern for security agencies because of the incessant attacks of Fulani herdsmen.
.
Sahara Reporters quotes a source at Defence Headquarters in Abuja as saying that the security operative, a brave policeman, was killed during the gun duel on Sunday, February 19 night after a large band of well-armed Fulani herdsmen attacked communities in the Southern Kaduna area of Kaduna State.
.
The source stated further that some other policemen and soldiers were also injured during the clash that saw the Fulani herdsmen repelled by the soldiers and mobile policemen in about four villages in Jema'a and Kaura local government areas of the state.
.
The source added that fighting lasted into Monday, February 20 morning because the herdsmen were determined to kill people and burn down several villages.
.
So tough was the battle that the security operatives had to request for reinforcements from other locations.
.
Sahara Reporters writes that the corpse of the deceased officer has been taken to a public hospital in Kafanchan while other corpses were retrieved from villages in both local government areas where the murderous herdsmen killed between 14 and 20 people in Southern Kaduna, particularly around Ashim village in the Takad chiefdom of Kaura Local Government Area.
.
NAN reports that Mr Alexander Iya, chairman of the local government’s interim management committee, who briefed newsmen on the incident, said that the gunmen stormed the village “around 6 am.” and launched a massive attack.
