The re-deployment of Elder Monday Udo Tom to Bayelsa State from Akwa Ibom as the Resident Electoral Commissioner is sure a sign of good things to come in the unfolding election period. This is because of the good work which the man did in Akwa Ibom, and will definitely continue this good work in his new destination.
According to the Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, while swearing in the new REC at the commission's headquarters last Wednesday in Abuja, the redeployment is in line with the commission's principle. The appointment of Elder Monday Udo Tom from Akwa Ibom State brings the total number of RECs nationwide to 36 states including the FCT to make it 37.
Elder Moday Udo Tom, the new Bayelsa REC, holds a BSc degree in Biological Science and a Masters in Microbiology. He served as a lecturer and variously a civil servant in Akwa Ibom State.
At his new post, he will be exercising supervisory control over personnel, resources as well as the legal and administrative processes in the state. He will also be interacting with various categories of stakeholders in the political firmament of the state.
His appointment is coming just few days to the 2019 General Elections and it is being greeted as a welcomed development in political calculation and math of the state because he is one man that can make things work when the bubble cannot burst.
Elder Udo Tom's appointment is a signal that the city will be firm grip of whatever that appears to be a stumbling block in the scenario that could present itself during the election in the South-South region. That's why Elder Udo Tom's appointment is being applauded in many quarters.
