Every single year, the world's population is increasing by a staggering sum of 83 million people. Currently, there are about 7.6 billion people in the world. It is expected that by 2050, there will be just short of 10 billion.
Population growth trends are unevenly distributed across the world. While some countries are rapidly expanding, others are shrinking drastically.

China currently has a population of 1.4 billion, they are closely followed by India with 1.3 billion. China and India make up 37% of the world's population.

Nigeria, as it stands now, is the 7th on the list of most populous countries, but it is expected according to the available statistics, that before 2050 it will have made third place, leavening the United States behind.
#3. Birth rate has fallen all over the world
The world fertility rate has dropped to an average of 2.5 births per woman since the 60s. However, that average is made up of highly diverse figures: in Africa its 4.7 births per woman, in Europe it's 1.6 births per woman.
#4. The people in the world is getting older
An increasing number of people are living to a ripe old age. In 1950, there were far more young than old. In 2017, there are fewer young and older people. By 2050, the numbers will even out.
#5. Differences in life expectancy will get less pronounced
Life expectancy in Africa was 60 years between 2010 and 2015, compared to 79 years in Northern America. But life expectancy is rising faster in Africa than Europe, so the difference is expected to decrease significantly by 2050.
