Presidency Commends Police For Exercising Restraint

Acting IGP, Abubakar Adamu

Lagos – The Presidency on Tuesday commended the Nigerian Police for exercising restraint and professionalism during Monday’s violent confrontation with members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Abuja.
Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity who spoke on Channels television said the police used live bullets when the protesters began to shoot which led to the death of a Deputy Commissioner of Police and others.
“People didn’t die in one year of the protest. Then, the protesters were peaceful and the police even provided cover for them. But who escalated to the level of violence and mayhem? It is the protesters”.
“If the police had responded according to the level of violence, we would have been talking of rivers of blood and I want to personally commend the police”
” The situation has been handled well until we had the violence protest by the Shiites members”.
