In a letter dated 9th December 2019, Heat Factory ICI wrote to startimes through its lawyer, Litigation Associates notifying them of the intellectual property theft, unlawful appropriation of content use without authorization and profiting from use of content without compensation of owner. In the letter, Startimes has been immediately mandated to first apologize to Heat Factory ICI in less than 48hours for using their content without permission and publish the apology on their website through a period of 30days.
Heat Factory ICI, through its lawyers also requested and demanded that a sum of 100million naira be paid to them as compensation for unauthorized use and profit from its movies and TV series showing on their platforms. The letter went further stating that the demanded compensation must be paid on or before the 30th of December 2019 and that failure to do so will reinforce the initiation of a legal action against Startimes.
Heat Factory ICI has been at loggerhead with some of its partners and co-producers over the use and showing of movie contents which they co-produced and are yet to receive funds for, but are already been aired and showing on several broadcast platforms. One of the fallouts was with Actress Rosaline Meurer, who had been on their neck insisting that her movie which hasn't been paid for is now showing on several platforms, which involved a call-out on social media.
