Anambra Assembly Mourns Former Speaker Onugbolu

The Anambra state House of Assembly has condoled the family of one time Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Barth Onugbolu over his demise.

Speaking when he led members of the House to the family of the deceased in Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Government Area, the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor described late Barth Onugbolu as a Speaker per excellence who contributed immensely to the development of Anambra and the growth of the Legislature in Anambra State.

The Speaker enjoined his family to be consoled by the fact that he lived a fulfilled life.

Expressing his gratitude to the House, the brother of the deceased, Mr Greg Onugbolu thanked the House for the visit, expressing regret that his brother died of a protracted illness that lasted for ten years.

Late Right Honourable Bath Onugbolu was the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly from 1999-2003.


The wife of the deceased, Mrs Michel Onugbolu who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Re -Orientation was present at the visit.

Also, Member representing Ogbaru 1 constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chukwunonso Noble Igwe (house committee chairman on youth empowerment, creative economy and sports) before seconding the motion for adjournment brought to the notice of the legislators an accident which occurred at Obodoukwu road in his constituency that claimed lives as a result of bad condition of the road and appealing to the Executive Arm of Government to fix the road to avoid more casualties.

Igwe while speaking to correspondents after plenary in an interview lamented saying "The Obodoukwu road is in a very bad condition. My people go through hill on a daily basis.

This is a very short distance road that is not up to three kilometers. I got the sad news of a container that falls on top of keke and killed the people inside.

"Am disturbed. I will continue to be on my knees begging the Governor to come and assist my people, Ogbaru 1 constituency have been totally neglected and forgotten.

I live in my constituency and on a daily basis I pass through these roads. Sometimes I trek. I have moved motions on it and we are hopeful that Governor Willie Obiano will come and assist us. We are having a serious issue with drainage system and flooding. Each time it rains, houses and properties are been destroyed".
