Amidst the on-going total or partial lockdown as the case differs for each state due to the outbreak of COVID- 19, it was reported that armed bandits stormed Karaukarau village, Giwa Local government area of Kaduna State, abducting three nursing mothers in the process.
According to Malam Sani Bakali, a resident of the village, the bandits have been choosing to attack ceremonies, since they lack foodstuffs. They attacked a wedding ceremony on Tuesday afternoon, heavily armed, and picked 13 women. The villagers however gathered and confronted the bandits, thereby rescuing 10 of the women leaving just three nursing mothers abducted.
According to him, ‘You know the curfew imposed as a result of the coronavirus had not been easy for the bandits as they now have short supplies of food. The hoodlums now attack wedding venues and gatherings.
“So, on Tuesday, there was a wedding in our village and the hoodlums stormed the venue and took 13 women.”
Bakali added that the incidence has been reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Giwa local government. However, the Kaduna Police Command’s PPRO, ASP Mohammed Jalige said that he has not been briefed about the development as at the time of writing this report.
