Demolition in Giri, Gwagwalada Area Council in Abuja (PHOTO)

At the early hours of today, Tuesday 4 August 2020 two earth moving Mechains accompanied with a truckload of officers of the Nigerian Police force and staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) stormed Giri Village in Gwagwalada area Council, FCT-Abuja, just opposite the Nigerian Army base, beside the University of Abuja and demolished over 15 houses.
Speaking with one of the demolition victims, he told our reporter that the FCTA team stormed the site and commenced demolition without due information and process.

However, our reporter gathered that FCTA earlier served the residents of the affected areas a 21 days Demolition Notice which elapsed last month.

It was also garnered that the FCTA team have visited the site not less than 3 times pasting demolition notice on the likely buildings which was a message for the owners of the properties to prepare ahead before the Notice.

One of the leaders of the Angwa’a (area) who’s name withheld stated that the demolition was going to affect only areas close to the River which has contributed to the flood-death of several people on several occasions.

He also pointed out that the act is necessitated on the basis that Dams would next week be open which might course more disaster than what has been experienced previously.
The demolition team left the site unaccomplished at about 1:30 PM Nigeria Time after the youths in the area rioted against them.

But there are clear indications that the team will return to accomplish its mission in a no distancing time after re-enforcing its team.
All efforts to reach the leader of the FCTA team on the site proved abortive.

  1. What the FCDA did was wrong most of the houses the demolish were not close to the river and the part of giri the demolish was not affected by the recent flood

They destroyed students houses and there properties, documents and we all know students are not around due the pandemic

God will punish the FCDA for rendering hundred of people homeless without providing them with any aid
Nigeria will never be good with this type of heartless people in this country
