Dame Amaechi, Mike Ozekhome, Prof. Ado Tenebe, Ini Ememobong, Others Win Big At Stakeholders Summit On Social Justice

 .... Addresses issues of inequality, human right, Youth Participation in Politics

Wife of the Minister for Transportation and former First Lady of Rivers State, Dame Judith Chibuike Amaechi, renowned legal practitioner and human rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN and other eminent Nigerians have been honoured with awards of excellence at the just concluded stakeholders summit on social justice in Abuja. 


The event organised by Drum Majors For Peace in partnership with Earthspring International was part of activities to mark the 2022 World Day of Justice. 


The summit which brought together leaders of thought, politicians, law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations, Non Governmental Organisations, faith-based organisations (FBOs) and the media seeks to promote advocacy for culture of human rights tolerance and responsible freedom in the society.

Panelists also highlighted some of the most critical social justice issues in the society with a call on everyone to stand up and contribute a part in changing the social justice narrative in society and the world at large.


Speaking at the event at Sheraton Hotels Abuja, the Executive Director, Drum Majors for Peace, Amb. Nsikan Paul noted that the summit is a veritable platform to galvanize support for the promotion of sustainable development goals (SDGs) especially goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).


According to Paul, it is one of the platforms to mobilise stakeholders for policy formulation that addresses various issues of inequality, poverty, human right abuses, professionalism and adherence to rule of law and gender balancing in governance, amongst others.

He appealed to stakeholders to do more in complementing the efforts of Government and other relevant agencies in promoting social justice.

Amb. Paul also remarked that the summit which was held along with award ceremony seeks to recognize selfless service among Nigerians especially in promotion of social justice as well as encouraging those who have raised the bar of social justice, women and youth participation in politics, good governance and inclusiveness. 


He said the awardees were carefully selected based on merit and their outstanding record of service to the nation. 

In her remarks, one of the awardees and special guest, Dame Judith Chibuike Amaechi expressed gratitude to the organisers of the event which she said is a robust avenue to sensitise the general public on the need to speak up and speak out against injustices. 


According to the Rivers former First Lady, the summit creates room for the continuous social engagement with the Social Justice gate-keepers to make the society more liveable. 


Dame Judith Amaechi who bagged Peace and Humanitarian Service award expressed gratitude that her modest contributions to raise the bar of inclusiveness, improved living standard and welfare of the girl child is being acknowledged. 

In his remarks Rev. Joseph Hayab said "We at Global Peace Foundation Nigeria preach that all humans are members of One Family Under God therefore our message is a call to Social justice where everyone deserves equal economic, political, and social rights and opportunities as members of the family, community, state, and the nation at large.


We must see and treat each other as one and equal.


We encourage our Youths to respect those who are their seniors and also those who are holding any office of responsibility but we must acknowledge that everyone whether he or she is big it small, male or female, black or white is special, unique, and important in building a peaceful and sustainable society.

Others who were honoured include Dr. Abdulrazaq Abubakar Garba who bagged Excellent Leadership Award, Hon. Isaac David GCO, (Sarkin Samaritan Abuja), Okokoro Ejiro-oghene as Queen of Peace International, Dr. Sulaiman Adejoh, the National President Messengers of Peace, ACG Abubakar Mohammed Gombe as Icon Of Peace And Excellent Leadership and Hon. Iyom Nikky Ejezie as Peace and Humanitarian Service Awardee. 


Others awardees include, for Excellent Leadership, Dr. Tommy Etim Okon for Peace and Humanitarian Service, HRM Dr. Amb. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, for Humanitarian Service, Alex Nwankwo (AlexReports) PR Expert / Media Consultant for Youth prize for peace and social cohesion, Comrade Christopher Udoh for Youth Prize For Excellent Leadership and Dr. Chris Oko Odey for Peace Service Award. 


Also in the list of those honoured include, Amb. Okama Ekpe Brook, Founder & President ACHA and REV. JOHN Joseph Hayab, President, Global Peace Foundation. 

The summit was well attended by dignitaries from various works of life including The Honourable Commissioner Federal Character Commission Representing Akwa Ibom State, Obongawan Dorah Ebong, The High Commissioner/Ambassador to Jamaica, Belize, Dominica Republic & Haiti Her Excellency Maureen P. Tamuno Ph.D


Members of the panel at the social justice summit include, High Chief Peter Ameh, the National Secretary, Coalition of United Political Parties CUPP, Amb. Austin Peacemaker, ECOWAS Youth Ambassador and COMR. Solomon Adodo, the President, National Youth Council of Nigeria. 


Other panelists include, activist Amina Elias Danjuma, Comrade (Barr.) Ini Ememobong, the Commissioner For Information and Strategy, Akwa Ibom State, David Agu Esq., Partner Ojoge, Omileye & Partners, Michael Edem-Duke, President, Citizen Journalists Network (CJN) and Dr. Henry Debem, President/Founder, The G-ROLE AFRICA.
