Edo Senator rubbishes PDP peace move

The lawmaker representing Edo South and the Chairman Senate Public Accounts Committee, Senator Matthew Uroghide, has described the reconciliation move by the Peoples Democratic Party as medicine after death.

Uroghide noted that the party was bound to fail the moment it refused to abide by the constitution which served as a guiding principle for the party.

The main opposition party has been enmeshed in crises that preceded the general elections and led to the suspension of some party chieftains including a former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose; and a former president of the Senate, Pius Ayim.

The National Chairman of the party, Iyorcha Ayu, was suspended by the PDP ward executives of his Igyorov Ward in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

A few days after Ayu was suspended, Justice Wilfred Kpochi of the State High Court in Makurdi granted an ex parte injunction barring him from parading himself as the chairman of the party.

Consequently, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Umar Damagum, stepped in as the acting national chairman pending the resolution of the leadership crisis or the emergence of a substantive chairman.

Barely 24 hours after stepping aside, Ayu’s successor, Damagum, reversed the suspension of Anyim, Shema, Fayose, and others, stressing.

However, Uroghide said the party kept quiet when the governors intimidated National Assembly members and watched things generate terribly.

He noted that the party prioritized money over the welfare of members which cost them their presidential election bid.

Uroghide said, “The party has conducted itself in such a way that sets it up for fall. The party wasn’t interested in settling the crisis or managing the issues, rather they just wanted to sell forms. They were more interested in getting money than in the survival of the party.
