Former Reps Member, Tony Nwulu Hosts LP Imo Guber Candidate, Sen. Achonu

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tony Nwulu has played host to the Labour Party governorship candidate in Imo State, Sen. Nneji Athan Achonu (Agu Otu Aka). 


Hon. Nwulu, the chief sponsor of the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill, now an act received the former senator at his Guzape home in Abuja. 


The duo held a closed door meeting which lasted for about an hour. Though details of the meeting was not disclosed to newsmen, it is not unconnected with the race to produce the next governor of Imo State in an election coming up later this year.

Sen. Achonu had earlier in the month emerged the governoship candidate of Labour Party in Imo State after a successful primary election. 


While announcing the result of the exercise, the returning officer and Abia-State governor-elect Alex Otti said Achonu polled 134 votes to beat his closest rival Major General Jack Ogunewe who scored 121.


Senator Achonu was elected into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015 to represent Imo North on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).


However, in December 2015, the Appeal Court sitting in Owerri, Imo State capital upturned his election at the instance of the candidate of the Accord Party that his party’s logo was not included in the ballot papers used for the 2015 National Assembly election. The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Benjamin Uwajumogu was then declared the winner of the polls.


Those who accompanied him to the strategic meeting with Hon. Nwulu include, Sir Ken Njemanze SAN, Hon. Sir. Tochukwu Okere HOR member-elect, Owerri federal constituency, Hon. Clinton Amadi Labour Party HOA candidate for owerri Municipal among others.
