“I lost movie roles because they said I was ‘not fine’”– Funke Akindele

Veteran Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele has spoken about how she was denied roles in some major movies because they didn’t deem her to be ‘fine’.

Funke Akindele opened on this as she held a talk in the recent episode of Toke Moments which is anchored by TV personality, Toke Makinwa.

The movie star said that she was denied roles even in Yoruba movies because of her facial looks. All the movie producers gave her was minor roles and this had left her in tears.

She said that her colleague, Iyabo Ojo always stepped in to help her out when she had disagreements with movie makers who turned her down because of her physical appearance.

Akindele stated:

“I remember people telling me, ‘You are not fine. You don’t have ass. You don’t have boobs. You will not be in this film. And, I remember crying. A lot of times I would cry, break down, get into the bathroom and cry.”
