Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation condemns Plateau’s killings, seeks support for survivors
A non-governmental organisation, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, has condemned the recent massive killings in Plateau State.
The Foundation, in a statement signed by its Director General, Engr Abubakar Gambo Umar, on Wednesday, called for relevant support for survivors of the ugly incident.
The statement also called for the immediate arrest of perpetrators of the killings.
It reads in full : “The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation strongly condemns the recent killings of more than 100 innocent citizens across several villages in Plateau State. This act of violence is a grave violation of the sanctity of human life and goes against the principles of peace and harmony.
The Foundation calls for an immediate manhunt of the culprits responsible for these heinous crimes. It is imperative that they are swiftly apprehended, brought to justice, and face the full force of the law. The security of lives and properties of citizens is of utmost importance, and the authorities must be proactive in ensuring the safety and well-being of the people.
In light of this tragic event, the Foundation emphasizes the need to provide comprehensive support to the survivors of these attacks. Their physical and emotional well-being should be prioritized, and appropriate measures should be taken to ensure their recovery and rehabilitation.
Furthermore, the Foundation advocates for adequate compensation to be provided to the families of the deceased. This is essential to alleviate the financial burdens they might face and to honor the lives lost in this senseless act of violence.
The Foundation urges the relevant authorities to take decisive and serious steps to stabilize the polity through peace-building and conflict resolution mechanisms. Sectarian crises have a detrimental impact on the tranquillity and progress of any nation. Plateau State, in particular, has suffered more than enough from these recurring crises, and it is imperative that concerted efforts are made to put an end to this cycle of violence.
The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation remains committed to fostering peace, unity, and development in Nigeria. We stand in solidarity with the people of Plateau State during this difficult time and call upon all stakeholders to work together towards lasting peace and the prevention of such tragic events in the future.”
