Former Anambra Assembly speaker dies in hospital

Mr Anayo Nnebe, a former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, died.

Nnebe, who died on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in an undisclosed hospital, had previously worked as the current governor’s Special Adviser on Legislative and Assembly Matters.

From 2007 to 2011, he was the State Assembly Speaker for the Awka South 1 Constituency, before being elected to represent the Awka North and South Federal Constituencies from 2015 to 2019.

Governor Soludo has confirmed his death in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime.

Soludo, who explained that he died after a brief illness, described Nnebe as a distinguished son of Anambra state, a patriotic Nigerian, a visionary leader, brilliant legislator, and passionate advocate for the welfare and development.

“His death is also a huge blow to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and to the entire people of Anambra State. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. May God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal rest,” he added.

Nnebe was once a political adviser to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
