Mourinho tipped for stunning Chelsea return amid Pochettino sack pressure

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has been told former manager Jose Mourinho would be the perfect replacement for under-fire boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentinian head coach was appointed permanently in the summer after last season’s disastrous campaign which saw Graham Potter sacked and Frank Lampard return as caretaker. Pochettino saw another big summer spend from the Blues as they attempted to compete with those at the top of the table.

However, Pochettino’s first season has been strewn with difficulties. The former Tottenham Hotspur man has seen his side drop to tenth in the Premier League with European football a real doubt for next year.

Fortunately, the Blues’ performances in the cup competitions have been better. Chelsea are still in the FA Cup and have reached the Carabao Cup final on Sunday against Liverpool.

Victory at Wembley could be the catalyst for change at Stamford Bridge but should the time have come for change at the top, former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes Mourinho is the only man for the job. He told Instant Casino: “You can’t knock Mourinho, he’s a serial winner.

“What he’s done at Chelsea, you can’t rule him out from coming back to Stamford Bridge. A young manager might not want to move to Chelsea at the moment so an experienced manager like Mourinho could well be the perfect fit.

“He also knows the Premier League inside out. People might feel like his time has passed but he’s not 70-years-old and he’s not outdated.

“You can never rule anything out in football so I would say there’s every chance Mourinho could return to Chelsea.” The 61-year-old recently left AS Roma after being sacked by the Italian club and has insisted he does not have ‘unfinished business’ at Old Trafford.
