State Police: NHFSS lauds Tinubu’s directive to govs, seeks presidential assent for hunter’s bill

The Commander General of Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, NHFSS, Ambassador Joshua Osatimehin, has described the recent directive to governors on the creation of State Police as welcome development aimed at addressing the nation’s security challenges.

Osatimehin stated this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on the need for President Bola Tinubu to assent to NHFSS Bill before him.

According to him, the establishment of State Police is long overdue to enable the country effectively tackle banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other crimes detrimental to national peace and development.

“I want to sincerely commend our dear President Bola Tinubu for asking State Governors during his meeting with them last week at the State House to establish State Police towards complementing the efforts of Federal Government in bringing insecurity to an end in Nigeria and this the NHFSS strongly support because it is long overdue and we in NHFSS will also do our best in working with the State Police when established to effectively protect our people and safe the country from bad element who have been terrorizing us over the years” the Commander General emphasized.

He stressed the need for the government to equally incorporate NHFSS in its Forest Ranger strategy of overcoming insecurity through ridding the nation’s forest of criminals and safeguarding the territorial integrity of Nigeria

The Commander General also emphasized the need for Tinubu to ascent to the NHFSS Bill before him towards realizing his renewed hope agenda in the area of security and to further strengthen the nation’s security apparatus.

While commending the Ebonyi State Government for employing two thousand six hundred youths into the activities of the State’s Command of NHFSS, Osatimehin advised other State Governments to effectively collaborate with the Service by strengthening its Officers and Men for Forest Rangers towards protecting lives and property of their people.

“The action of Governor of Ebonyi State, Honourable Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is highly commendable by giving two thousand six hundred youths in the State jobs in Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, NHFSS, Ebonyi State Command and this will believe will go a long way in reducing unemployment among the youths and also assist the Government in addressing all forms of insecurity in Ebonyi, ” he said

The Commander General explained that NHFSS with its Commands at Federal, State and Local Government levels has the capacity to combat insecurity nationwide.

He said the Service had over the years been complementing the efforts of other formal security agencies added that NHFSS would not relent in supporting Tinubu’s led administration in achieving his renewed hope agenda in the area of security for all Nigerians.
