Hoodlums gun down printer in Rivers
On Saturday, gunmen suspected of being cultists shot and killed George Sopruchi, a printer, on Abakiliki Street in the Mile 1 district of Diobu in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers state.
According to reports, the gunmen followed their target to Abakiliki near Emenike Street at 8.30 p.m. and shot him dead while he was speaking with someone.
The incident occurred approximately 72 hours after a suspected cultist shot a guy dead in the Nanka/Lumuber neighborhood of Diobu, sending cold shivers down the spines of many locals in the area.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen carted away his motorcycle and one of his mobile phones. Onlookers rushed to the scene as soon as the assailants fled and rushed the victim to the hospital. Unfortunately, he had passed away.
The eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “It was just like what happened three days ago when some cult boys trailed a man to Nanka/Lumumba who went to buy noodles and shot him dead.
“What is happening in Diobu is becoming scary. Let the police be up and doing so that people can sleep with their two eyes closed here.”
The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed last Thursday’s killing at Nanka/Lumuber Street, had said investigation was ongoing to apprehend the fleeing culprits.
Efforts to reach on the latest incident proved abortive as she did not answer calls put across to her telephone by our reporter.
She had yet to also reply to a text message sent to her as of the time of filing this report.
