NAFDAC uncovers fake bottled water syndicate in Port Harcourt
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has discovered a counterfeit bottled water operation in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, that targets the well-known brand Eva Water.
Acting on a tip, officials searched a derelict store camouflaged as a pool house on Pipe Line Road in Eneka, where suspects were making fake water.
According to NAFDAC, discarded Eva plastic bottles were replaced with contaminated water collected from a paint bucket and filtered through a dirty rubber funnel wrapped in fabric. Counterfeit Eva labels were then attached to the bottles and corked using phony Eva corks.
One suspect, Chibunna James, was apprehended while loading the contaminated water for distribution, while the mastermind remains at large.
The seized products were confiscated and evacuated to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.
