Eid-el-fitr: Northern gov frees 222 inmates

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has obtained the release of 222 inmates from the state’s correctional facilities after they paid their fines.

This was stated on Tuesday in Katsina by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula-Mohammed.

He explained that the decision was part of a caring effort to bring happiness to convicts during the Holy Month of Ramadan so that they may enjoy Eid-el-Fitr with their families.

According to him, the inmates are individuals jailed because of their failure to pay fines issued by various courts of law.

Mr Kaula-Mohammed qouted the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Fadila Muhammad-Dikko, saying that the initiative would go a long way in decongesting the custodial centers.

“The commissioner, who expressed sincere gratitude to the governor, also acknowledged the significance of this gesture by providing relief to those incarcerated for minor and non-capital offenses.

“The selection process for the beneficiaries involved thorough verification and recommendations to the state for intervention in paying the fines holding them in the correctional facilities,” he qouted Muhammad-Dikko as saying.

The CPS further stressed the administration’s commitment to continue upholding justice and ensure the well-being of its citizens.
