Embattled LP’s chair, Abure attends INEC meeting

Embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, is currently leading a delegation to attend a meeting convened by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside leaders of various political parties.

This gathering serves as the commission’s regular quarterly consultative forum, aimed at discussing developments within the political landscape and strategizing for future elections.

Following the National Convention that reaffirmed Abure’s position as the National Chairman of the party, there were reports indicating that INEC did not monitor the exercise as required by the Electoral Act. This led to speculations regarding the commission’s stance on recognizing Abure as the legitimate National Chairman.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Abure-led leadership have been embroiled in a power struggle, with the NLC asserting that Abure’s tenure has expired and thus, he no longer holds the position of National Chairman.

This ongoing dispute adds further complexity to the political dynamics within the Labour Party and underscores the importance of resolving internal conflicts within political organizations.
