After One Month Tourism Trekking, Amb. Phil Roberts Receives Rousing Welcome in Abuja
A renowned tourism promoter and the Executive Director, Tourism Volunteers Network, Amb. Phil Roberts has concluded his 'Tourism Across The Niger' tour and returned to his Abuja base to a rousing welcome.
The project which lasted for one month saw him trek from Abuja Art and Culture Centre on May 21 to Delta state where he visited The commisioners of Tourism in all kigi, Edo and also the various Senior Special Assistant to the Governors of the states. He was also hosted by the Governor of Edo state.
The 'Tourism Across The Niger' was aimed at exploring tourism potentials of to harness the country's socio-economic development.
He walked through the FCT, Kogi Edo, then Delta State, covering about 27,600 minutes by foot to see various tourism potentials in Delta State.
The one-man trekker returned to Abuja on June 21 and was received by notable stakeholders in the tourism sector.
Among those who came to receive him include the representative of FCT Minister, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, FCT Tourism Tourism Director, the Director of Youths and Sports, Director of Arts and Culture as well as other senior officials of Social Development Department of the FCT.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun was also represented by the Officer in Charge of Campaign Against Cultism. UNESCO also had a representative, including youth and women groups were on ground to show their support.
They applauded the bravery of Amb. Phil Roberts and his willingness to embrace the unknown.
They thanked him for the effort to showcase the wonders of the FCT and the rich potentials of the country across the Niger.
The representative of the Inspector General of Police noted that the safe return of the adventurer is a clear indication that Nigerian roads are safe.
Amb. Roberts noted that time has come for Nigerians to believe in tourism and work hard towards promoting the numerous tourism potentials the country has.
He said the next phase of the project will be tagged, "Tourism Across FCT", which seeks to discover and promote tourism potentials in the nation's capital as community based tourism project.
