EFCC raids ‘Yahoo Party’, arrests 127 suspects
In a swift operation conducted by operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), 127 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud were apprehended in Ondo State.
The arrests took place during an early morning raid on a gathering dubbed as a “Yahoo Party” concurrently held at Signature and Abah Clubs on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in Akure, Ondo State.
According to a statement released by the anti-graft commission on Saturday night, credible intelligence indicated that the purported party was initially slated for Wednesday, June 5, 2024, but was rescheduled for Saturday in an attempt to evade detection by EFCC’s security and intelligence networks.
The suspects, upon their apprehension, provided valuable information to the Directorate’s investigators. Among the items seized from them were ten luxury cars, mobile phones, laptops, motorcycles, wristwatches, and numerous incriminating documents.
Pending the conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be arraigned in court to face appropriate charges.
