El-Rufai breaks silence over corruption allegations by Kaduna assembly

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has dismissed allegations of fraud leveled against him by the state house of assembly as “politically motivated.”

An ad hoc committee set up by the assembly recommended a probe into el-Rufai’s administration between 2015 and 2023, accusing him of diversion of public funds and money laundering.

Henry Zacharia, chairman of the ad hoc committee, presented the report during plenary, alleging that most of the loans obtained by the el-Rufai administration were used for other purposes and that many projects did not follow due process.

Reacting to the allegations through his spokesperson, Muyiwa Adekeye, el-Rufai described the probe as a “jaundiced” one aimed at tarnishing his legacy. He maintained that he led a government of integrity during his eight-year tenure and that the accusations should be disregarded.

El-Rufai asserted his pride in his governance record and the legacy he left in Kaduna State, stating that the claims being made against him were politically motivated and lacked credibility. He emphasized that his administration complied with all laws and dismissed the probe as a politically motivated hatchet job.

Despite the allegations, el-Rufai remains confident in his record of service and integrity, urging discerning Nigerians to disregard the allegations and view them as a smear campaign by political opponents.
