The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Gombe State, Muhammad Bello, announced on Sunday that Yahaya Buba will face charges of attempted murder.
This follows an incident that led to the amputation of his 21-year-old nephew, Adamu Mohammed.
In an interview with Punch correspondent, Bello condemned Buba’s actions, highlighting the brutality of tying Mohammed’s hands allegedly for stealing a phone.
The lack of blood flow resulting from this act necessitated the amputation of Mohammed’s arms.
Bello stated, “We are charging him with attempted murder. What he did endangered the boy’s life and left him permanently incapacitated.”
Addressing rumours that Buba might be released due to his relationship with the victim, Bello criticized the involvement of Mohammed’s father, who reportedly misused the funds provided for his son’s treatment.
“We have no intention of releasing the perpetrator. Initially, we arrested the biological father for his severe neglect. Despite the uncle providing money for treatment, the father took the funds and abandoned his son,” Bello explained.
Furthermore, Bello criticized a Non-Governmental Organization for falsely claiming credit for Mohammed’s treatment.
