Police arrest man who climbed radio mast in Abuja over ‘hardship’, give reason

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have apprehended a man who scaled a radio mast in Abuja in an attempt to end his life.

Abujapress gathered that the man, Shuaibu Yushua, reportedly climbed the radio mast over the present condition in the country.

A statement released on Monday by FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrest of Yushau on charges of attempted suicide.

The statement detailed the incident: “At approximately 9:10 a.m., we received a distress call from concerned citizens reporting a young man who had climbed a high mast with a placard at ASO Radio in Katampe. The FCT Police Command promptly dispatched officers to the scene.

“Through professional and persistent persuasion, our operatives successfully prevented the individual, later identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau, from taking his own life. Yushau admitted to having observed the mast for about a week before making his climb. He is currently in police custody and in stable condition.”

The police assured that further updates on the case will be provided as more information becomes available.
