Nigeria’s Senior National Women’s Basketball Team, D’Tigress, triumphed over Canada with a score of 79-70 on Sunday, securing their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

D’Tigress, who kicked off their campaign with a win against Australia but fell to France in their second match, bounced back impressively to defeat Canada in their final group game.

This victory marks a historic moment as D’Tigress advance to the quarter-finals for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games.

Ezinne Kalu delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 21 points to lead her team to this milestone achievement.

The match began with both teams showcasing their skills, ending the first quarter in a tight 18-18 draw. Canada, still searching for their first group stage win, gained a slight edge in the second quarter, outscoring Nigeria 23-19.

However, D’Tigress dominated the third quarter, overpowering Canada with a commanding 23-5 run, establishing a strong lead that they maintained throughout the final quarter to secure the win.

Olamide Ayomikun, a basketball enthusiast, praised Nigeria’s performance, stating, “It was a very competitive game. Nigeria showed great skill and fully deserved the victory. They should be commended for their efforts.”

Timothy Adaku, another fan, echoed similar sentiments, describing the team’s performance as exceptional. “They played with tremendous determination and made their opponents seem outmatched. If they continue with this level of play, they have a real shot at reaching the finals.”

As D’Tigress move forward, fans are hopeful for continued success and are excited to see what the quarter-finals hold for the team.
