Edo: Why Tinubu won’t influence upcoming guber poll – Mrs Obaseki
Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the First Lady of Edo State, has denied claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to use “federal might” to influence the forthcoming governorship election in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a recent interview, Mrs. Obaseki emphasized that President Tinubu is committed to upholding democratic principles.
She praised both Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari for their hands-off approach to electoral outcomes, noting that Buhari’s use of federal power was strictly to protect voters, not to interfere in election results.
Mrs. Obaseki highlighted President Tinubu’s track record as a reformer during his tenure as Lagos State governor, expressing confidence that he would not undermine the progress Edo State has made under the leadership of her husband, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
She added that Edo’s development has gained international recognition, and disrupting that progress would be counterproductive.
She concluded by expressing hope for Nigeria’s future, stating that if more governors emulated the progress made in Edo and Lagos, the country would see widespread development.
