How my ministerial appointment was sealed at Wike’s house – Lokpobiri
Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, has credited Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for playing a crucial role in securing his appointment to the federal cabinet.
Lokpobiri made this statement on Saturday during an event organized by the Ijaw Peoples Congress (IPC) in Port Harcourt to honor Wike. He highlighted the significance of political alliances and support networks in attaining key government positions.
“It is important to tell you, my brothers and sisters, that the reason I stand before you today as the Minister of State9for Petroleum Resources is largely due to Nyesom Wike,” Lokpobiri said.
He further noted that Wike’s influence extended to others, citing the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), who also acknowledged Wike’s involvement in his appointment.
“My own case could have been a more direct role. Some of you may not know. It all started in Wike’s house in Port Harcourt and was concluded in his house in Abuja,” Lokpobiri revealed.
He continued, “My second journey of becoming a minister began at the minister’s house in Port Harcourt and was finalized in his Abuja residence. It’s essential to share this history.”
Lokpobiri explained his motivation to speak up, saying, “When I was reviewing the welcome address, I noticed my name was not included among those who have benefitted from his benevolence. I thought that my name, Heineken Lokpobiri, would have been mentioned.”
Since his name wasn’t listed, he felt it necessary to complete the story. “I want you, Ijaw people, to know that we have a brother, we have a friend. It is always better to have a good friend than to have a bad brother. Of what use is a bad brother? It is of no use. But if you have a good friend, like the FCT minister, you are already blessed,” Lokpobiri said.
Addressing Wike directly, Lokpobiri added, “Your excellency, the FCT minister, on behalf of the Ijaw people worldwide, I want to express our deep gratitude for your love and support towards the Ijaw people.”
He concluded by reaffirming the Ijaw people’s loyalty and appreciation for Wike’s efforts. “We Ijaw people are very grateful. If you do us good, we will not repay you with evil. We are looking forward to seeing you continue to do more for our people,” Lokpobiri said.
