Inspired By Her Personal Story, Queenette Awukam Launches Vlog To Give Victims Of Abuse A Voice
A social influencer and ex beauty queen, Queenette Awukam has unveiled a new YouTube vlog, " Queen Mother's Playbook" aiming to give members of communities to voice out their concerns.
Awukam, who was Cross River Most Beautiful Girl 2015/2016, made top 15 MBGN 2016, is also the founder of The Queenette Awukam Foundation started the vlog with her personal story of molestation at early childhood.
The mental health advocate and author had created the platform to amplify the voices of victims of social injustice, gender-based violence and other forms of social harms.
Announcing the launch, Awukam who is expected to be the lead anchor person of the show, "Queen Mother's Playbook" stated that her decision to create the platform is to give persons opportunity to air out their emotional and psychological pains only them can feel.
"Sometimes people harbour a lot in their minds, carrying the burden that weighs them down psychologically, emotionally and they smile about with these deep cuts.
"We are saying that time has come to tell these stories for the world to hear so that others can learn a lesson from it, and by so doing, the victims themselves can get a relief that their story has been heard.
"I was molested by my teacher at the age of 8 and I couldn't voice out because deep inside me, I felt I have sinned. There are many people in that condition and what we owe them is a shoulder, that shoulder starts by given them a listening ear", she told newsmen in Abuja.
The weekly programme will be running on her YouTube, Instagram and Facebook pages simultaneously.
She is therefore urging partnership from individuals and organizations to advance the quest for the oppressed to get succour.
