Soldier allegedly kills NSCDC officer in Oyo nightclub
Tragedy struck in the Bodija area of Oyo State as a soldier, identified as Abubakar, allegedly stabbed and killed Olapade Segun, an officer of the Nigerian Civil Defence and Security Corps (NSCDC), during a heated altercation at a nightclub on Friday night.
According to eyewitness reports, the two security agents clashed at the nightclub, leading to a violent escalation.
Abubakar, reportedly angered by the exchange, pulled out a dagger and stabbed Segun. Sources revealed that Segun died from excessive blood loss caused by the stabbing.
A witness, speaking on condition of anonymity, recounted how a mob, enraged by the incident, attacked the soldier as he attempted to flee the scene.
“The soldier tried to escape, but the angry crowd caught him and beat him severely. It wasn’t until his fellow soldiers arrived and dispersed the crowd that he was freed.”
In the aftermath of the incident, senior officers from the Nigerian Army have been visiting the NSCDC state command as part of ongoing investigations. It was also learned that the Army has set up a panel to probe the matter.
Efforts to reach Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Nigerian Army Public Relations, and Babawale Afolabi, the spokesperson for the NSCDC, were unsuccessful as both officials had not responded to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
This tragic incident has raised concerns about conflicts between security agencies, with many calling for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
