Tinubu speaks on Edo election
Ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Edo State, President Bola Tinubu has urged all involved parties to maintain peace and respect the democratic process.
His message was delivered through a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, titled “President Tinubu Urges Peace and Civility in Edo State Governorship Elections.”
As Edo State prepares for the Saturday, September 21, 2024 election, the race features three major contenders: Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP). The election is expected to be highly competitive.
President Tinubu, through his statement, called on all political candidates, their parties, and supporters to respect the democratic process, stating his trust in the ability of Edo voters to make informed choices. He highlighted the importance of tolerance, civility, and adherence to electoral rules as essential for a thriving democracy.
Acknowledging the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) commitment to conducting a transparent election, Tinubu urged all stakeholders to contribute to ensuring a peaceful and orderly process.
He also praised the candidates for focusing their campaigns on issues important to Edo residents, such as economic development and improved quality of life.
In his closing remarks, President Tinubu expressed full confidence in the neutrality and professionalism of both security agencies and INEC officials, urging them to maintain impartiality to preserve the integrity of the election.
