CJN intervenes in Rivers political crisis, summons judges over conflicting court rulings
Amid escalating political tensions in Rivers State between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has taken action by summoning judges involved in issuing conflicting rulings on political cases in the state.
Justice Kekere-Ekun has instructed a National Judicial Council (NJC) panel, led by a former Court of Appeal justice and comprising two court heads, to investigate the judges.
She has ordered that a detailed report of the findings be submitted within the week. Additionally, the CJN has summoned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for a meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
This intervention follows formal complaints submitted to the NJC and reflects the CJN’s commitment to addressing judicial inconsistencies and maintaining the integrity of the judiciary.
Justice Kekere-Ekun’s decisive response underscores the judiciary’s critical role in preserving order amid political disputes, ensuring that the judicial process remains fair and consistent.
