Nigerian military arrests IPOB founder in Southeast operation

The Nigerian Military has announced the arrest of Pius Iguh, the founder of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), during a recent operation in the Southeast region of the country.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Director of Defence Media Operations Edward Buba revealed that Iguh was captured as part of Operation Udoka, which targeted the group’s hideouts in Orsu, Imo State, and Amaruku and Arochukwu in Abia State.

During this operation, three additional notorious members of IPOB were also apprehended. Buba reported that military troops successfully neutralized 24 terrorists and arrested 12 violent extremists as part of the ongoing campaign against insurgency in the region.

In a significant development, one hostage previously abducted by the group was rescued during the operation. Following their arrest, all suspects have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.

“Troops at Forward Operation Base, Orsu, conducted a sting operation that culminated in the arrest of an IPOB terrorist leader.

“The arrested terrorist leader, identified as Pius Iguh, is a founding father of the ESN group in the Orsu general area of Imo State,” Buba said.
