A police officer attached to the Delta State Police Command has allegedly shot and killed a 17-year-old boy for setting off fireworks in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area.

The incident came to light after a user on the social media platform X, identified as @SabuDaniels, shared two videos on Sunday.

One video showed the victim’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, while the other depicted angry youths transporting the body on a motorcycle.

“The police in Ozoro, Delta State, shot and killed a 17-year-old boy cos he bought and shot knock out, and they left him die according to eye witness. Angry youths took the body to their station and they chased them with tear gas,” the X user wrote in separate posts.

Reacting to the outcry, the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed that the officer responsible for the shooting has been identified and detained. He also disclosed that two officers are already facing legal action for murder.

“Bro, you know the Policeman has since been identified and detained. The Nigeria Police Force did not send him to kill those he is suppose to protect, hence he will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Edafe said in response to the post.

He added, “The Nigeria Police remain the main force that single out erring officers and make them face the law. This year alone, more than two has been charged to court for murder. This case won’t be an exception because the policeman has no justification at all. He has been detained and the CP has assured the family of justice.”
