Police arrest suspected serial rapist for assaulting TASUED students
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested Olarewaju Idris, a 31-year-old man, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old female student of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun.
The victim, a student from the Library and Information Science Department, was reportedly assaulted after meeting the suspect at a lounge in Ijebu Ode.
According to Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, Idris approached the student at the nightclub, abducted her at knifepoint, and took her to a secluded area where the crime was committed.
Police investigations have revealed that Idris is a suspected serial rapist, and authorities are urging other potential victims to come forward with information.
Odutola stated that the teenager arrived at the police station, visibly shaking to report the incident.
On the information, the suspect was tracked down to a popular hotel in Erinwo, Ijebu-Ode, where he was immediately taken into custody on Saturday.
She said, “At approximately 6:00 am, an 18-year-old survivor arrived at the police station, visibly shaken.
“She recounted how, around 1:00 am, the suspect approached her at the club and, under the threat of a knife, forcibly dragged her away to a nearby street, where he raped her before fleeing into the darkness.”
Odutola pointed out that the suspect had previously perpetrated a similar crime against another TASUED student at a hotel, where police officers eventually caught him.
She added, “In a twist, another TASUED student, also a 300-level student, arrived at the station shortly after, reporting a similar horrifying encounter.”
According to her account, between 2:00 am and 3:30 am, the same suspect lured her onto a motorcycle and took her to Magun Hotel in Ijebu Ode, where he raped her, leaving severe bruises.”
She revealed that investigation was on ongoing and the survivors were taken to Ijebu Ode State Hospital for urgent medical attention.
