Drama as EFCC denies confirming VDM’s arrest to BBC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims that it confirmed the arrest of social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to the BBC.
Earlier reports by BBC Pidgin had quoted EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale as saying that VDM was taken into custody based on multiple petitions and would be arraigned in court shortly.
However, in a swift rebuttal posted via its official Instagram handle, the anti-graft agency dismissed the BBC’s report as “fake news,” insisting it never issued such a statement or confirmed any details about VDM’s detention.
The EFCC’s response has sparked confusion and speculation among the public, especially as calls for clarity around VDM’s arrest continue to mount.
