ISWAP launches midnight raid on Borno military base
In the early hours of Friday, fighters from the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) reportedly launched a deadly assault on a military base in Ngamdu, along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to reports, the insurgents stormed the Ngamdu military super camp around 2 a.m., opening heavy fire on troops stationed at the base. Several soldiers were feared killed during the fierce exchange, while others sustained injuries.
In the aftermath of the attack, the military was said to have cordoned off the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway, causing a traffic gridlock and leaving hundreds of travelers stranded.
“Reports indicates that the insurgents launched a late night attack on the military super camp in Ngamdu inflicting casualties on personnel. Early this morning, military ambulance conveyed some injured soldiers to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu,” the source said.
