Nigeria Marks Inaugural Reputation Day, Targets Promotion Of National Integrity

Published on

The Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG) has marked the first-ever Nigeria Reputation Day, calling on citizens to embrace integrity, transparency, and excellence as foundations for rebuilding the nation’s image.

Themed “Better Reputation, Better Nigeria,” the day is dedicated to reflecting on the values that define Nigeria’s identity and how individual conduct contributes to the country’s global perception.

In a statement signed by Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, Chairman of NRMG, the group emphasised that reputation is one of Nigeria’s greatest assets, “not merely perception, but power” affecting investment confidence, international relations, and national pride.

The NRMG outlined five pillars for strengthening national reputation: Consistency, Transparency, Responsibility, Respect, and Excellence. These, the group said, must guide personal and institutional behaviour if Nigeria is to command global respect.

Badejo-Okusanya highlighted what he called the “M-Factor” which he listed Nigeria’s cultural power grid comprising Music, Movies, Media, Minds, and Fashion—as soft-power drivers that shape the nation’s global image. He urged Nigerians in these sectors to project dignity, truth, and creativity anchored in purpose.

“Let our music carry messages of dignity as much as rhythm, our media amplify truth, not toxicity, and our fashion express pride anchored in purpose,” he stated.

From 2025 onward, October 15 will be marked annually as Nigeria Reputation Day, serving as a national reminder that “integrity and reputation are the foundations of progress.”

The NRMG, a private sector-led initiative of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), said it will continue to lead advocacy, research, and public enlightenment campaigns toward rebuilding Nigeria’s image and national character.
