Ahmed Musa announces retirement from Super Eagles after playing for 15 years
Super Eagles captain and Nigeria’s most capped international, Ahmed Musa, has officially announced his retirement from the national team, bringing an end to a remarkable 15-year career in the green and white jersey.
Musa made the announcement on his verified social media handles on Wednesday, reflecting on a journey that began when he first answered the national call-up as a 17-year-old.
Over the years, he rose to become one of Nigeria’s most decorated and influential footballers, earning a record 111 caps for the Super Eagles.
“I wore this badge with pride for 15 years. From a 17-year-old boy answering every call to becoming the most capped Super Eagle with 111 appearances.”
During his illustrious international career, Musa won the Africa Cup of Nations title and etched his name in history as Nigeria’s highest goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup.
He also had the honour of captaining the national team, leading by example both on and off the pitch.
Highlighting his deep connection to the country and the national colours, Musa described himself as a “Captain. Servant. Believer,” adding that he gave everything to the team and the nation.
“I gave everything. Thank you, Nigeria… my heart will always beat green.”
