BREAKING: Bandits kill 30, abduct scores in Niger market attack
No fewer than 30 villagers have been killed while many others were abducted following an attack on a market in Niger State by gunmen suspected to be bandits operating from the Kainji Lake National Park.
The assault reportedly took place on Saturday at Kasuwan Daji market in Demo village, located in Kabe District of Borgu Local Government Area. The attackers were said to have gained access to the community through Kabe.
According to Leadership, the armed men set the market on fire, looted food items and other goods, opened fire on residents, and abducted several villagers while fleeing through routes leading into the vast Kainji Lake National Park forest.
Confirming the development, the Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said operatives drawn from a joint security team had visited the area, while efforts were ongoing to rescue those abducted.
“Over 30 victims lost their lives during the attack, some persons were also kidnapped,” Abiodun told AFP, adding that the raid happened on Saturday.
