JUST IN : Iran’s supreme leader, Khamenei, may have been killed – Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said there are strong indications that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, may have been killed.

On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched missile strikes on Iran, with Israel describing the operation as “pre-emptive”.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the offensive was aimed at “remove threats against the State of Israel”.

The coordinated military action by Israel and the United States targeted strategic Iranian locations, including areas surrounding Khamenei’s compound in Tehran.

The Israeli government said several key officials of the Iranian government were eliminated during the strike.

Iran responded by firing missiles at US assets across the Middle East. Reports indicate that Iranian projectiles struck locations in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.

Reacting to the situation, Netanyahu said “all indications show this tyrant is no longer with us”.

Earlier, Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, dismissed reports that Khamenei had been killed, insisting that the country’s supreme leader was “safe and sound”.

Araghchi added that efforts to alter Iran’s political leadership amount to a “mission impossible”.

However, Israeli media outlets reported that Khamenei’s body had been recovered following the strike.
