UniAbuja gets first female SUG president
300-level student of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Eyamu Peculiar, has made history as the first female President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja ) following her victory in the 2025/2026 students’ union elections.
Peculiar emerged victorious in the election conducted through a digital voting platform, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s student leadership history.
A post shared on the University’s verified Facebook page on Thursday said she contested the election on the campaign slogan, “Everything Peculiar, Nothing Is Ordinary.”
Reacting to her victory, the president-elect expressed gratitude to God and the students for their confidence in her leadership.
“I feel grateful to God and sincerely thankful to every student who believed in my vision. Being the first elected female SUG President is not just a personal achievement; it is a victory for every young woman who has dared to dream and for every student who believes leadership should be based on competence, character and service, not gender,” she said.
Her emergence has been widely hailed as a landmark achievement for gender inclusion and student representation at the university, with expectations high for her administration as she prepares to lead the Students’ Union Government during the 2025/2026 academic session.
