Police kill two suspected kidnappers, rescue abducted truck driver in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has reported the death of two suspected kidnappers during a security operation that led to the rescue of a professional truck driver abducted in the state.

The operation, carried out by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones and N2 million allegedly linked to criminal activities.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi.

According to Opeyemi, the truck driver was kidnapped at about 11:10pm on August 25, 2026, around the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.

He said the command immediately mobilised its Anti-Kidnapping Unit following the report, with the objective of rescuing the victim and apprehending those behind the abduction.

Opeyemi said, “Determined to ensure that the perpetrators did not evade justice, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit working on actionable intelligence stormed the kidnappers’ hideout located along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road and in the process, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with different degrees of gunshot injuries.

“A search conducted at the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, twenty-five rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two cell phones, and a cash sum of Two Million Naira (₦2,000,000), reasonably suspected to be part of the proceeds of criminal activities.

“The corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while the Command has since intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing gang members.”

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for what he described as its bravery, professionalism and effective response during the operation.

Ojajuni said the development demonstrated the command’s determination to pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals across the state, regardless of where they attempted to operate.

He assured residents that the police would sustain intelligence-driven operations, tactical interventions and collaboration with local communities to safeguard lives and property.

The commissioner also called on residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.

He specifically appealed to members of the public to report individuals suspected of seeking medical attention for gunshot injuries, noting that such information could help security operatives apprehend the fleeing suspects.
