Tragedy as 7 die in Bida-Kutigi road crash

Seven people have lost their lives in a fatal road crash along the Bida-Kutigi Road in Niger State.


The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon at Shebe village, a few kilometres from Kutigi.


The Niger Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Aishatu Sa’adu, said the crash involved a Mazda vehicle and a Siena bus travelling along the busy route.


According to her, 18 people were involved in the accident. Seven died at the scene, seven others sustained injuries, while four escaped unhurt.


“Seven people lost their lives, seven others were injured while four were rescued without injuries, bringing the total involved to 18,” Sa’adu said.


She added that the injured victims were taken to Kutigi General Hospital for treatment, while the remains of those who died were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.


The identities of the victims were yet to be released as of the time of filing this report.


The FRSC has not disclosed the immediate cause of the collision, while investigations are expected to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.


The incident has renewed concerns over road safety along the Bida-Kutigi corridor, which connects several communities and carries significant passenger traffic. (NAN)
